With prolific insect life, one hundred miles of trout habitat and over 2500 trot per mile the Deschutes is a venerable trout stream. However, it is not a river that gives up its secrets to the faint of heart. There is no better river to hone your skills as a trout angler than the Deschutes. If you move slowly, look closely and make each cast count it will make you a better angler, Period.
With the famous salmon fly hatch in May and blizzard caddis hatches in June and July the Deschutes offers outstanding dry fly fishing under most conditions. Alex prides himself on hunting rising trout and will tailor the day towards dry fly opportunities. While not a numbers game, stalking rising trout on the Deschutes is the pinnacle of trout fishing. Perfect presentations under Bankside vegetation are often required and when achieved the power of a Deschutes redside is a wonderful reward. The Deschutes is also perfectly suited for swinging flies with the trout spey. Depending on conditions both streamers and soft hackles are effective and a perfect way to enjoy the pleasures of a tight line grab outside of steelhead season.
